Health status of prisoner suffering from cancer worsens

Health status of prisoner suffering from cancer seriously worsens

31/05/2012

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The international Tadamun (solidarity) society for human rights said the Israeli jailers transferred the cancer patient Amer Baher from his cell in Beersheba jail to the hospital of Ramla prison after serious deterioration of his health status.

Spokesman for Tadamun society Ahmed Al-Betawi said prisoner Baher suffers from bowel cancer and two years ago, he started to feel acute pains in his stomach and to lose weight, but the prison doctor said he suffered nothing and there was no danger to his life.

Betawi added that the prisoner has been in pain since his detention and when his health noticeably declined, the jailers transferred him to hospital where he underwent an appendectomy, but one week later his pains returned and the prison doctor said this time that the pains were resulting from the surgery and would be gone with time.

The spokesman elaborated that later, the death incident of a Palestinian patient named Zakariya Issa after his release from an Israeli jail alerted the Israeli prison authority which ordered its jailers to transfer prisoner Baher to hospital again where his suffering from bowel cancer was confirmed.

He said prisoner Baher has lost so far 25 kilograms of his weight, suffers from continual painful diarrhea and vomiting, and is regularly transferred to hospital to receive palliative medical treatment.
