Radwan Asserts That There Is A Time Frame To Implement Reconciliation
22/05/2012
GAZA (PIC)-- Dr. Ismail Radwan, a Hamas leader in Gaza, said that the latest agreement in Egypt paved the way for the implementation of the Doha Declaration and the Cairo Agreement, and demonstrates Hamas movement's keenness to restore unity and to end the deadlock in the reconciliation.
Radwan said, in an exclusive statement to PIC on Tuesday, the Egyptian agreement represents a favorable opportunity for the reconciliation's success and for the restoration of unity, during such difficult circumstances.
Radwan stressed that: "The elections need a national consensus government", and said that it had been agreed that the elections Committee would begin its work in conjunction with the formation of the national consensus government asserting that "Hamas is committed to the agreement."
He stated that Hamas is for holding the elections, which are part of the reconciliation, and does not fear the ballot boxes. He added that the election date will be selected after the formation of the Palestinian consensus government and the preparation of the appropriate files, noting that the duration of the government, which will be responsible for overseeing the elections and the reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip, is only six months, or may be any other duration upon which the Palestinian factions agree.
The Hamas' leader considered that the main obstacle facing reconciliation lies in the foreign interventions as the obstacles set by the U.S. administration and the Zionist occupation, in addition to the non-commitment to the terms of the Cairo Agreement, the lack of freedom in West Bank, the arrests against the Islamic bloc's members and supporters, and the political detention. Many procedures should be taken on the ground to ensure the success of reconciliation, as affirmed by Dr Radwan.
Furthermore, he noted that there is a time frame for the completion of the reconciliation that is the twenty-seventh of this month, which will mark the start for working on the rest of the files, and emphasized that the consensus begins with governmental consultations, while the Central Election Commission starts preparing for parliamentary and presidential elections.
