Mahmoud el-Sarsak is still on a hunger strike, started
more than two months ago, although the other strikers have
ended theirs.
Mahmoud told Jawad Polos, lawyer at the Palestinian Prisoner Society, that the Israeli prison management had promised to free him at the beginning of July, if he ended the strike.
He agreed, but the management told him later that he will not be released until the end of August, which he refused, and continued the hunger strike.
Sarsak, a player in the national football team, was kidnapped by Israeli occupation army in July 2009 and detained as an “illegal fighter.” He was interrogtaed in the Ashkelon Investigation Centre for a month, but no charges were brought against him.
Mahmoud insists that he will not stop the strike until he is freed.
