HMAS Perth to Visit Wellington
What: The Royal Australian Navy’s Anzac Class Frigate HMAS Perth will visit Wellington, NZ to participate in ANZAC Day
remembrance ceremonies in Wellington and Carterton, demonstrate the capabilities of the Anti Ship Missile Defence (ASMD)
upgraded ANZAC Class Frigate, and take the opportunity for some rest and recreation for the ship’s company. Perth will
continue on to Hawaii and the West Coast of the USA/Canada prior to participating in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC)
Exercise in July.
When: 1 pm Sunday 22 April until Thursday 26 Apr 12.
Where: Queen’s Wharf, Wellington, New Zealand.
Who: Captain Mal Wise, OAM, RAN, Commanding Officer HMAS Perth, will be available for interview via
arrangement with the ship’s Public Relations Officer.
Fresh from conducting exercises with HMNZ Ships Te Kaha and Endeavour off the coast of Western Australia the Royal
Australian Navy Guided Missile Frigate HMAS Perth, will visit Wellington for five days commencing 1300 22 April.
The RAN and the RNZN share a long and proud history which continues today as sailors selflessly serve their country in
our immediate region and beyond. The ANZAC forces worked together during the Gallipoli campaign and continue to
collaborate in the same spirit now to protect our shared National interests.
The ship’s company looks forward to the opportunity to spend ANZAC Day in New Zealand and share in the commemoration of
this important day in both our Nations’ history. Perth’s ships company will participate in memorial services in
Wellington and Carterton.
Perth will be continuing North East after her visit to New Zealand, conducting port visits in Hawaii, Canada and the
West Coast of the USA before heading West to participate in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercises off Hawaii. She
will then continue West to Darwin, Australia to participate in Exercise Kakadu 2012.
Perth is the last of eight Anzac Class frigates built for the Australian Navy, and is of the same class as the RNZN
frigates HMNZS Te Kaha and Te Mana. Perth is a long range guided missile frigate capable of air defence, surface and
undersea warfare, surveillance, reconnaissance and interdiction. The ship can counter simultaneous threats from
aircraft, surface vessels and submarines. The ship has recently undergone the “Anti Ship Missile Defence” upgrade, which
saw her fitted with the Australian Designed and built CEAFAR Phased Array Radar and Mk3E SAAB Combat System.
Perth will not be open to the public during this visit.
