On April 17 the Palestinian people observe Palestinian Prisoner Day, a practice they have done since 17/4/1974, when Palestinian prisoner (Mahmoud Baker Hijazi) was released in the first prisoner exchange between the Palestinians and the Israeli occupation.

The Ministry of Interior and National Security in all its security and police services and departments participated in the protest to show solidarity with all Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails in front of the Red Cross in Gaza.

Also, Minister of Interior Mr. Fathi Hammad and Palestinian police chief Brigadier General Tayseer Al-Batsh participated in the event, which was called by the national and Islamic forces on Tuesday morning to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian prisoners and show solidarity with them.

For her part, the mother of the prisoner Raef Al-Farra, from Khan Younis, who was arrested 8 years ago and sentenced to life, said: "We come today to show solidarity with our prisoners on Palestinian Prisoner Day, and to share with them their hunger strike and to strengthen their steadfastness and alleviate their suffering in the Israeli jails."

The mother of another prisoner, Maher Al-Bassiouni, who was sentenced to 16 years, confirmed that she came to show solidarity with our prisoners, and she said that such events alleviate the suffering of the prisoners in Israeli jails and support their steadfastness.
