Alleged Sexual Assault at Royal Military College Duntroon

Alleged Sexual Assault at the Royal Military College Duntroon

Brigadier David Luhrs, Commandant of the Royal Military College, today addressed the media in Canberra in response to allegations of sexual assault at a private residence on the Duntroon Garrison.

A Staff Cadet at the Royal Military College Duntroon (RMC) allegedly sexually assaulted a civilian on 5 April 2012. He was arrested and charged by ACT Police and was granted bail at a hearing in the ACT Magistrates Court today.

Defence is providing dedicated support to all parties involved in this matter.

“The Chief of Defence Force, Chief of Army and I are deeply shocked by the serious nature of what is alleged to have taken place on the Duntroon Garrison,” Brigadier Luhrs said.

“There is no tolerance for members who are not willing to live by Defence values.

“The Australian Defence Force expects the highest standards of professionalism from its members and we are deeply aware that we are held to a high level of account.”

The Royal Military College Duntroon and the Australian Defence Force Investigative Service are assisting ACT Policing in their investigations.
