U.S. Facing Bold New Calls for "Drug War" Alternatives.
Washington is facing renewed calls to innovate policy its drug policy. For years, a number of former heads of state in
the region have called for the United States to examine its War on Drugs and consider some more unconventional tactics
of fighting the menace, including decriminalization. However, President Otto Perez Molina of Guatemala has become the
first sitting president to add his voice to these increasing calls. It is time for the U.S. to take its head out of the
sand and adapt to changing times, starting by putting the national interests of the countries that are primarily
affected by the Drug War first.
