Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International
Security Rose E. Gottemoeller and Assistant Secretary of
State for the Bureau of International Security and
Nonproliferation Thomas M. Countryman will travel to Brazil
from March 4-5 to meet with senior Brazilian Government
officials for bilateral discussions on nonproliferation and
disarmament issues. A key focus of this trip is the upcoming
Nuclear Security Summit process and updates on arms control
issues, such as the implementation of the New START
Treaty.
Brazil is an important global partner that shares common arms control and nonproliferation goals. We appreciate Brazil’s leadership, both regionally and internationally, and we look forward to collaborating further in dealing with the important nonproliferation and disarmament challenges.
