Taiwan will continue to take part in international events to increase its visibility, regardless of China's opposition,
a senior Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) official said Thursday.
"Taiwan will adjust its means of participation according to each organization's regulations," said Joseph Chow, deputy
director-general of MOFA's Department of International Organizations.
He made the remarks a day after China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said that China is against Taiwanese
interaction with China's diplomatic allies.
China is also opposed to Taiwan's presence in any international organization in which membership is limited to
recognized sovereign states, according to a report by the China News Service.
Chow said that Taiwan has its way of doing things and will follow its own plan.
As an example, Chow said, Taiwan will continue to earn recognition from the North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC),
an organization to be established for countries engaged in the fishing industry.
Government officials traveled to Tokyo Feb. 20 to attend a preparatory meeting on the commission, and Taiwan will apply
for membership, he said.
