Assistant Secretary of State for
Political-Military Affairs Andrew J. Shapiro will travel to
the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia,
February 8-16, 2012.
In Manila February 9-11, Assistant Secretary Shapiro will consult with senior civilian and military officials on further enhancing broad defense and security cooperation for the mutual benefit of the United States and the Philippines, building on consultations from the recent U.S.-Philippines Bilateral Security Dialogue in Washington.
In Jakarta, Indonesia, February 12-13, Assistant Secretary Shapiro will meet with senior officials to further bilateral political-military cooperation, such as Indonesia’s recent decision to upgrade its air force with the acquisition of F-16 aircraft. Assistant Secretary Shapiro will also attend the groundbreaking for the new U.S.-funded barracks at Sentul Peacekeeping Training Center, a facility which helps to meet the growing global demand for specialized military and civilian personnel to serve in peacekeeping missions.
In Singapore February 14-16, Assistant Secretary Shapiro will attend the Singapore Air Show 2012, as well as discuss political-military and defense trade issues with senior government officials and industry representatives.
On February 15, Assistant Secretary Shapiro will travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he will hold bilateral meetings with senior civilian and defense officials.
