Another Killing in Mulia

Following the sound of gunshots in Mulia, Pucak Jaya, on 20 January, it has been reported that a local man was shot and has been fond dead.
People in the locality said that while they were still in their homes, they were shocked by the sound of three gunshots. When they went out of their houses to see what had happened, they found the body of a man who had been shot in the head, by a bullet that entered his head at the back of his neck and came out at the front. As a result, the people are now afraid to leave their houses and have had to stop their daily activities since last Saturday.
The local police chief has confirmed that there were gunshots and said that the name of the man shot was Rofiq, who was working for a local company. He said that the police were having difficulty getting information from the local people.
He said that is was not possible to identify the person or persons responsible. 'This was by an unidentified person but the area where the shooting took place is known to be a base of an OPM. group led by Yambi. [Without any proof, the police have already started to blame the OPM for the shooting.]
The director of Imparsial, Pungky Indarti said that the police should be held responsible for the series of shootings that have been occurring in Puncak Jaya which have led to the deaths of a number of local civilians as well as members of the security forces. The duty of the police is to provide protection for the community and investigate the perpetrators.
'There have been many incidents where local people and members of the security forces have been killed but to this day, no one has been arrested for the killings.According to the law, this is the responsibility of the police.' She also said that the police in an area like Puncak Jaya should have the facilities and competence to function in the area.She said that she thought that the work of the police in the area should be subject to evaluation, considering the many shootings that have occurred there throughout 2011.
She drew attention to the availability of firearms in the black market, and it was up to the police to put a stop to this.
