In recent months, the media has widely reported on the continuous human rights violations committed by members of the Mexican military. While news of these atrocities only recently surfaced on major news stations, Mexican authorities, in fact, have been struggling with human rights abuses since 2007 when these pivotal events first started to come to light.
This analysis was prepared by Isida Tushe, Guest Scholar for the Council on Hemispheric Affairs.

Stephen Lendman's recent article, "CELAC: A Washington-Controlled OAS Alternative?"
Veteran Chicago sage Lendman can be caught over his blog http://sjlendman.blogspot.com/ as well as on his half hour radio program over at The Progressive Radio News Network (http://www.progressiveradionetwork.com/the-progressive-news-hour) on Thursday 10 AM CT, which also is carried over to the same station on Saturday and Sunday at 12 PM CT. Although his competence covers the entire international affairs' spectrum, his coverage of Latin American themes is particularly first class. This can be seen, in his analysis of the founding of CELAC, which has been seen by Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez as being a possible replacement of the OAS, the region’s existing regional body.
Although Lendman’s analysis of CELAC may be open to challenge by some, no one has written a more trenchant investigation of the new regional body’s possible evolution contemporary role. One neglects his material only under the greatest of peril.
