Indonesia prepares for CTBT
ratification
A large group of Indonesian
Parliamentarians visited the CTBTO on 22 November in
preparation of Indonedia’s ratification of the
Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). The group
represented various political parties, all of which support
the step. CTBTO head Tibor Tóth and senior staff members
briefed the group on the ongoing build-up of the
verification regime. On 30 November, the Indonesian
Parliament’s Defense and Foreign Policy Commission
approved the national legislation for ratification of the
CTBT. Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa attended the meeting

Michael Douglas: Has your
country ratified the CTBT?
In a new series of TV
spots launched today, Oscar-winning actor and UN Messenger
of Peace, Michael Douglas, calls on all countries to support
the CTBT and help end nuclear testing, forever. In
particular, Douglas appeals to those countries that have not
yet ratified the Treaty to do so without delay, so that it
can enter into force and become global law.

Advanced Course on the CTBT
kicks off
The Advanced Course on the CTBT
verification technologies started this week. The course,
taking place from 28 November to 9 December in Vienna, is
designed to train and educate a new generation of CTBT
experts. It can also be followed online via video-streaming.

CTBTO cross-regional workshop
in Istanbul
Around 70 experts from 30 countries
participated in the cross-regional workshop Role of the CTBT
in regional and global security, co-organized by the
Government of Turkey and the CTBTO in Istanbul from 15 to 17
November.

The CTBTO at the Jeju
Disarmament Conference
CTBTO head Tibor Tóth was one
of the keynote speakers at the 10th United Nations
Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Issues in
Jeju, Republic of Korea, from 7 to 8 November (click for
video message by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon). Tóth
gave an interview to Yonhap News Agency.

Next major scientific
conference in June 2013
The CTBTO is pleased to
announce that the next conference CTBT Science,
Technology and Innovation 2013 (STI2013) will be held in
Vienna in June 2013. The format will build on the previous
2011 scientific conference which welcomed 700 participants
from 100 countries.

Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, U.S. Assistant Secretary
of State Gottemoeller addresses a range of nuclear
disarmament and non-proliferation issues, including several

Stockpile Stewardship program.

inspection exercise authorized
Video on the CTBTO
produced by the U.S. Mission to the UN in Vienna. It reports
on last month’s unanimous decision taken by CTBTO Member
States to authorize a new large-scale on-site inspection
exercise in 2014, the Integrated Field Exercise.
