Huge gas reserve discovered in Papua

Jakarta - The government said it had discovered a large potential gas reserves in Papua by one contractor or contractor oil and gas cooperation contracts (KKKS). The amount is 100 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).

This was conveyed by Evita Legowo as quoted from the site the Directorate General (DG) Oil and Gas, on Thursday (29/09/2011).

"Hopefully in 2 to 3 years, we can develop (develop) the gas," he explained.

Through the discovery of gas in Papua, the government expects to obtain additional gas from the timar Indonesia.

In addition, Evita said it also continues to monitor the development of the Tangguh gas field in Papua. According to Evita, the development of the Tangguh field to train 1 and 2 runs smoothly and has been producing gas. Going forward, planned to be built trains 3 and 4 are parallel with the construction of petrochemical plants.

"To train 3 and 4 will be done sesecara parallel between trains 3 and 4 with the petrochemical complex," said Evita.

Evita explained that “the current government is still in its early stages to ensure the gas potential in the field. Expected early next year, can already be known when the construction of trains 3 and 4 as well as petrochemical plants can be started.”
