Palestine must get New Zealand Government’s support
For Immediate Release. 28 September 2011
Young Labour is calling on the New Zealand Government to commit to supporting full United Nations membership rights for
Palestine, should a vote arise at the United Nations.
The group's President Ella Hardy says this is a humanitarian issue in which the rights of the Palestinian people must
be acknowledged.
“Palestine must be given a global platform to progress their continuing struggle for recognition and basic human rights”
she says.
“Young Labour opposes the occupation of Palestinian regions by Israel and believes New Zealand should support the call
by international leaders for a peace settlement that enshrines the 1967 border arrangements".
"Palestinians make up the world's largest refugee population as Israeli occupations continue to drive Palestinians from
their land, denying them of their rights, restricting their access to resources, and depriving them of their own
dignity.”
“New Zealanders are proud to live in a country that is seen internationally as a peaceful and responsible global
citizen. It is important that we retain this reputation on the world stage by doing the right thing and supporting
Palestine if any vote should occur" Hardy concludes.
