Stand in solidarity with the women of the Pacific
5 September 2011
Amnesty International is co-ordinating a
series of vigils to greet Pacific Island leaders as they
arrive at key Pacific Island Forum events, and also
highlight our concerns about the widespread and systematic
incidence of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the
Pacific. This is an opportunity for media to see how
strongly many New Zealanders feel about the endemic issue of
Sexual and Gender-based Violence in the Pacific.
Tuesday September 6
• 7.30-8.50am; The Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting, Sky City Convention Centre, Corner of Hobson and Victoria Streets.
• 9.10am-9.50am; Wellesley Street overpass, outside Auckland University of Technology, Wellesley St. This is in support of the Amnesty International press conference on sexual and gender based violence in the Pacific, and the launch of “Where is the dignity in that?” report on informal settlements in the Solomon Islands.
• 4.30pm-5.30pm; Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Dinner, Auckland Museum.
Wednesday, September 7
