Dem spokesman accuses GOP of dirty tricks in Waukesha vote count 09 Aug 2011 A state Democratic Party spokesman accused a Republican official Tuesday night of tampering with votes in
the tight 8th Senate District recall race. With 10 of 11 Waukesha County wards still out -- including all of those in
Menomonee Falls -- party spokesman Graeme Zielinski said, "We believe the election in this contest has been tampered
with by Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus. She's sitting on votes. We believe that right now, there are severe
irregularities in Waukesha County once again. We believe the very fate of the Wisconsin Senate hangs in the balance and is in the hands of a woman who has already
shown extreme incompetence. We believe there’s dirty tricks afoot."

Iraq's Sadr demands U.S. forces pull out 09 Aug 2011 Iraqi radical Shiite cleric leader Moqtada al-Sadr Tuesday called on U.S. troops to pull out from Iraq, blaming the Americans for the chaos and
sectarian strife that engulfed the country after 2003. "Go forth from our holy land and go back to your families who are
waiting for your arrival impatiently, so that you and we, as well, lead a peaceful life together," Sadr said in a

Two American men CAN sue Donald Rumsfeld after 'being tortured by U.S. army in Iraq' --Pair say their rights of 'habeas corpus' were violated 09 Aug 2011 Two American men will be allowed to sue former Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld over claims that they were
unfairly tortured by U.S. troops in Iraq. Donald Vance and Nathan Ertel, who worked for a private security firm in the
Middle East country, were allegedly beaten and punished for months in 2006 at Camp Cropper near Baghdad before being
dumped at the airport without charge. The pair argue that their rights of 'habeas corpus' - the legal term for unlawful
detention - were violated, and are seeking damages from Rumsfeld, who was succeeded by Robert Gates in December 2007,
and unnamed others.

US helicopter crashed in Taliban trap: Afghan official 08 Aug 2011 The Taliban lured US forces into an elaborate trap to shoot down their helicopter, killing 30 American
troops in the deadliest such incident of the war, an Afghan official said Monday. US President Barack Obama pledged that
the incident -- which killed 38 people -- would not keep foreign forces from prevailing in Afghanistan, and the Pentagon

biggest single loss of life for American and NATO forces since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan 'toppled' the Taliban
in late 2001.
Japan Hid Radiation Path, Leaving Evacuees in Peril 09 Aug 2011 For three nights, while hydrogen explosions at four of the reactors spewed radiation into the air, they
stayed in a district called Tsushima where the children played outside... The winds, in fact, had been blowing directly
toward Tsushima -- and town officials would learn two months later that a government computer system designed to predict
the spread of radioactive releases had been showing just that... Meltdowns at three of Fukushima Daiichi's six reactors
went officially unacknowledged for months. In one of the most damning admissions, nuclear regulators said in early June
that inspectors had found tellurium 132, which experts call telltale evidence of reactor meltdowns, a day after the
tsunami -- but did not tell the public for nearly three months.

Mark Duggan did not shoot at police, says IPCC --IPCC releases initial findings of ballistics tests in police shooting of Mark Duggan, whose death sparked London
riots 09 Aug 2011 Mark Duggan, whose shooting by police sparked London's riots, did not fire a shot at police officers before
they killed him, the Independent Police Complaints Commission said on Tuesday. Releasing the initial findings of ballistics tests, the police watchdog said a CO19 firearms officer
fired two bullets, and that a bullet that lodged in a police radio was "consistent with being fired from a police gun".
One theory, not confirmed by the IPCC, is that the bullet became lodged in the radio from a ricochet or after passing
through Duggan.

War. Documents indicate the U.S. spy agency saw Canada's fledgling telecommunications satellite network as an
influential project that would set the pace for other nations planning to launch their own systems. A still heavily
censored memo reveals the CIA also took a special interest in research by an Ottawa university on Soviet commercial
enterprises.

six races contested on Tuesday to take back a majority, provided they also retain the two seats up for election on
August 16.
Verizon union members say strike worth hardship --Job security, pensions at issue 10 Aug 2011 On Sunday, about 6,000 Verizon Communications Inc. employees in Massachusetts walked off the job after the
unions and the company failed to reach an agreement on a new contract. The strike is unusual in its size - 45,000 people
nationwide and one of the largest in a decade - and for its timing, during a period of historically high unemployment
and concerns about another recession. The unions - the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and
Communications Workers of America - are fighting to keep employee pensions, affordable health care benefits, and a
clause that makes it more difficult for Verizon to lay off union workers.
