We'll Take On You, Niger Delta Group Warns Boko Haram
The Niger Delta Indigenous Movement for Radical Change, a seeming left wing group in Nigeria's oil and gas region, has threatened to mobilise some unrepentant militants in the region, to take the current “terrorist battle” to Boko Haram and their sponsors in the northern part of the county.
They are in the mean time, requesting the Northern political and religious leaders to choose between to continued existence of Nigeria as a country and the “extremist Islamic militant group” Boko Haram.
A news report by AkanimoReports on Monday said the group have also warned members of the alleged Islamic terrorist group against further destabilization of the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, warning that they have the capacity to return fire with fire.
They have therefore, urged President Jonathan to set in motion a process for a declaration of a state of emergency in the troubled states of the North, but that in the interim, he should order the security agencies to raid the palaces of some prominent traditional rulers in the north allegedly suspected to be behind the terrorist group.
The Niger Delta group is of the view that the worsening security situation in the country “is a calculated attempt to discredit the administration of President Jonathan. But let it be known to the Boko Haram and their sponsors that we will resist any attempt to destabilize the current administration of President Jonathan and that we are ready to spill our last blood to defend his administration”.
These facts were contained in an on-line statement wired to AkanimoReports on Monday by the President of the Niger Delta group, Nelly Emma, Secretary, John Sailor and Public Relations Officer, Mukoro Stanley.
They are accusing some prominent royal fathers in the north of sponsoring the alleged terrorist Islamic group, in order to create crisis in the country, insisting that any plot against President Jonathan by the North will be resisted by any means necessary.
According to them, “we have been watching with total dismay the activities of Boko Haram in some parts of the country and we hereby warn that enough is enough; Boko Haram must give peace a chance, stop disturbing one of our own, President Jonathan as we are not going to take it easy with anybody or group of persons trying to make the country ungovernable for the President”.
While opposing calls for withdrawal of soldiers from Borno State, the group said “this is one request President Jonathan must turn down because such agitations are self-serving. Some prominent leaders in the North including their traditional rulers are backing Boko Haram to cause havoc in the country.”
They are accordingly imploring President Jonathan to use the Joint Task Force (JTF), State Security Service (SSS), and the Police to search places of some royal fathers in the north, claiming that there will be shocking discoveries.
In a seeming angry tune, they said, “Boko-Haram and their sponsors should not dare the rest of us from the Niger Delta. Please, help us warn them to desist from stepping on the lion’s tail. We will not hesitate to respond in like measures for the sake of President Jonathan and our country”.
