Mark Todd Claims Fourth Badminton Win
Legendary New Zealand horseman Mark Todd achieved an outstanding feat in England overnight, winning the prestigious
Badminton Horse Trials, 31 years after his first Badminton win.
Mark rode his way to becoming Badminton's oldest champion, at age 55, on NZB Land Vision in what was, remarkably, the
first start for the horse at the elite four-star level.
Placed fourth after the dressage, followed by a strong cross country, and with four points separating the top 12 riders
going into the show jumping phase, Mark needed a clear round in order to secure the win. After rattling the first rail,
Mark and NZB Land Vision calmly delivered a faultless round to retain their overnight lead and take the title with 43.6
points.
Mark was delighted with the performance of the relatively inexperienced NZB Land Vision.
"Although NZB Land Vision finished the cross-country tired yesterday, within 15 minutes he was towing his girl back to
the stables and was full of bounce at the trot-up this morning," said Mark.
"I truly think he is one of the best horses I've ever had."
In an outstanding comeback, Mark retired from eventing 11 years ago but, after an eight-year break, returned to the
sport and has now won one of the most demanding and coveted titles on the international eventing circuit.
After competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics on NZB Gandalf, Mark now has London 2012 in his sights with NZB Land Vision
the favourite to be ridden there.
