Anzac Day commemoration in Honiara
Media Release: Australian High Commission, Honiara
The Australian and New Zealand High Commissions welcome public attendance at the Anzac Day Service of Remembrance at The Cenotaph on Monday 25 April at 5.30am.
The Anzac tradition was born 96 years ago on the shores of Gallipoli in Turkey during the First World War where the feats of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) forged a legend of mateship, determination, courage and resourcefulness.
Each year on 25 April, Australians and New Zealanders pause to reflect on the sacrifice of ‘Anzacs’ who have served in every theatre of war since 1915. Anzac Day commemorations traditionally begin with dawn services around Australia and New Zealand, and across the globe.
Australia’s Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, has urged all Australians to remember current serving men and women who embody the Anzac spirit around the globe. At present, more than 3,300 Australian Defence Force personnel are deployed on operations, including those deployed under RAMSI in Solomon Islands.
The Cenotaph is located next to the Central Police Station. Access is via Mendana Avenue. Please arrive by 5.30am. Umbrellas and torches are advised.
