AT&T Bid Positive News for T-Mobile USA Workers

Brussels, 21 March 2011 (ITUC OnLine): Yesterday's announcement by US telecommunications company AT&T that it plans to purchase Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile USA is welcome news for T-Mobile's US employees. The ITUC, with its German and US affiliates DGB and AFL-CIO, has been working in support of efforts by UNI Global Union and its German and US telecoms sector affiliates ver.di and CWA to ensure respect for T-Mobile USA's employees' union membership and collective bargaining rights.

"This announcement is a positive development, both for the future of broadband in the US and Germany, and for the employees of T-Mobile USA in particular given AT&T's record in respect of fundamental workers' rights. The ITUC will continue to support UNI in its efforts for a global agreement with Deutsche Telekom," said ITUC General Secretary Sharan Burrow.
