Brussels climate protesters face jail this week
15 March 2011, Brussels - The trial of eleven climate activists who carried out a peaceful protest at a European summit in December 2009 is set to conclude in Brussels on Thursday 17 March.
At the last hearing on 17 February, the public prosecutor called for one month prison sentences and fines of €1,100 per activist. The case involves Belgian, French, Dutch and British citizens. Judges presiding over the case in the 60th chamber of the criminal court at the Palais de Justice are expected to reach a verdict at the hearing starting at 2pm.
