April Polls: Ogoni Royal Fathers Back Ex-Ssg For Senate
Ogoni royal fathers in Rivers State, on the platform of the Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers of Ogoni, have finally endorsed the candidature of the immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr.Magnus Ngei Abe, for the coming April polls. Abe, who is a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is battling to represent Rivers South East Senatorial District in the upper legislative chambers of the bi-cameral National Assembly.
The endorsement of the ex-SSG was made known to AkanimoReports on Tuesday, by an Ogoni monarch, Godwin Gininwa, President of the Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers of Ogoni. He claimed that the choice of Abe was based on his good track record as a former Minority Leader in the state House of Assembly, Information Commissioner and SSG under the Chibuike Amaechi madministration.
“We commend our son, Magnus Ngei Abe for the pride he has brought to our people. As a minority leader in the House of Assembly, he represented us well, as commissioner for Information, he represented us well; as SSG, he also represented us well and as Senator, he will represent us well”, the monarch said.
He also condemned the incident during the last Ogoni Day celebration, where some group of youths attacked Abe, with the intention of allegedly assassinating him, pointing out that such ugly incident should not be swept under the carpet.
According to him, ''we, the Ogoni royal fathers, are urgong our subjects to vote for Governor Amaechi and Abe in the April polls'', claiming that their public declaration has put to rest the speculation that they were not in support of the candidature of the former SSG. ends
