Solomon Islands Foreign Affairs Meets Indian Prime Minister

Solomon Islands Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon Peter Shanel Agovaka on Saturday has met with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and held bilateral meetings with his Indian Colleague, Foreign Minister Krishna.

Hon Agovaka is leading Solomon Islands delegation to the India-LDC Ministerial Conference taking place in New Delhi from 18-19 February. The conference is focused on enhancing South-South Cooperation between India and Least Developed Countries.

Bilateral Discussions between the two countries focused on current status and direction of India -Solomon Islands bilateral cooperation. India offered Solomon Islands five additional scholarships.

Minister Agovaka thanked his colleague and assured India that Solomon Islands will make every effort to fully utilize the new training opportunities beside other scholarships.

The two countries also discussed the status of India's cooperation on India - Pacific Small Islands Development States Tele-medicine and tele-education project proposal.

Minister Agovaka assured India on his return he will provide India with the information needed for them to visit the country and coordinate the project with Solomon Islands focal point.

More than 30 Ministers from LDC countries are participating in the Conference.
Four other Pacific states attended the New Delhi meeting including Kiribati, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Samoa.
