Decentralisation of Fiji health services

Decentralisation of health services

(Monday January 31st 2011, No:0250/MOH)

ALL six health centers in the Central Division are extending their opening hours in a move to decentralise the general outpatient department services at Colonial War Memorial Hospital from today.

These are Lami, Samabula, Valelevu, Raiwaqa, Nuffield in Tamavua and Makoi health centers.

Health Ministry spokesman, Peni Namotu said the centers would be open from 6:30am to 10pm on weekdays and half day on weekends and public holidays.

“This is leading up to the full closure of the CWM Hospital’s outpatient services at the end of February,” he said

“Members of the public, who live around the Suva area, are advised to utilise services at their nearest health center and not to crowd CWM Hospital.

“We are assuring the public that you will be receiving the same services provided at the CWM Hospital.

“In the meantime, GOPD service at CWM hospital is reduced and a skeleton staff is in place.

“All other staff members are redeployed to the six health centers to cater for patients.”

Mr Namotu said the ministry was setting up a new system so manpower of doctors and nurses were taken care of.

He concluded that the first day of operation was running smoothly and the Health Ministry would ensure services were maintained or even improved a couple of notches.
