Two Australian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan
The Australian Defence Force can confirm that two Australian soldiers were wounded yesterday, Thursday 30 December,
while securing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) location in Afghanistan.
At approximately 1712 (AEDT) the first soldier was wounded from a single shot fired from an unknown location and
direction.
While securing a landing zone for an aero medical evacuation a short time later, a second soldier was also wounded by a
single shot from an unknown location and direction.
Both soldiers were aero medically evacuated to the ISAF medical facility at Multi National Base Tarin Kot, with one
subsequently moved to Kandahar for further treatment.
Both soldiers are now listed as being in a satisfactory condition.
Acting Chief of Joint Operations, Rear Admiral Ray Griggs, says the two Australian soldiers have been admitted to
hospital in both Tarin Kowt and Kandahar.
“Medical staff will continue to monitor the soldiers’ condition,” Rear Admiral Griggs said.
As operations are continuing the ADF will not release further details at this time.
The next-of-kin of both soldiers have been notified.
