Australia Observes US and Republic of Korea Naval Exercise

Australia Observes United States-Republic of Korea Naval Exercise

A representative from the Australian Defence Force has today observed the United States-Republic of Korea naval exercise in the Yellow Sea.

This naval exercise underlines the United States – Republic of Korea Alliance and contributes to peace and security on the Korean Peninsula.

Australia has observed this exercise in our capacity as a contributing nation to the United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission (UNCMAC).

Australia’s Defence Attaché to the Republic of Korea serves as a liaison officer to UNCMAC and – along with liaison officers from the United Kingdom and France – observed the exercise afloat the USS George Washington carrier group.

UNCMAC plays an important role in supervising the Armistice Agreement that ended the Korean War.

The involvement of UNCMAC liaison officers in this exercise highlights the importance of its role in supervising the Armistice Agreement.

Representatives from the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission to the Armistice Agreement also observed the exercise.
