Front row for Fogg in BNT V8s second round

LG Motorsport’s Angus Fogg has secured a front row starting position for the first race of round two of the BNT V8s Championship in Christchurch this weekend.

Fogg currently heads the leader-board as the NZV8s’ series tackles the twisty, technical Powerbuilt Tools Raceway.

In hot, sunny conditions for qualifying, Foggy’s top ten shootout flying lap time of 1:29.878 was just 0.304 seconds off the pole-setting pace of Kayne Scott, earning Fogg a front row position for Sunday’s first 10-lap race.

“We started really well during this morning,” said Fogg, “and slapped on a new set of tyres for qualifying, then the LG-ZB Falcon was away.”

Fogg described his flying lap in the top ten shootout as “...not perfect; there were a few little errors, but I’ve got a different mindset at present. As the series leader, I want to stay out of trouble in tomorrow’s races whereas Kayne’s down a bit on points. From the outside of the front row, the starts at Ruapuna can be tricky. We’ve got some very strong guys behind us [Craig Baird and John McIntyre], so we’ll just have to see how the start goes.”

Fogg’s team saved some of their tyre allocation from Pukekohe’s opening round so with the temperature outside and inside the race car expected to be high again on Sunday, Fogg says it’s going to be a real test of man and machine.

“I’m relishing the opportunity to do well and maximise the chance for strong championship points.”

LG Motorsport’s other NZV8 driver William Bamber qualified 18th, a slight improvement for the 16-year-old from Wanganui over his opening round qualifying position of 19th.

LG Motorsport also backs 15-year-old Jamie Gaskin in the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup class. The Upper Hutt teenager qualified a very strong third in the 1600cc Suzuki and finished the first 8-lap race in a very credible fourth position.

Fogg, Bamber and the LG Motorsport crew contest three races on Sunday, with the first starting at 10:20am. The second 10-lap race starts at 1:05pm before the 20-lap reverse grid race at 3:40pm.
