The Shape Up America Campaign Organization Selects First Lady Michelle Obama as recipient of the "Health Advocate Achievement Award."
First Lady Michelle Obama has been selected to be the recipient of the "Health Advocate Achievement Award" by the Shape Up America Campaign Council for all of her hard work and dedication in helping to create a healthier nation. First Lady Michelle Obama has personally been a tremendous inspiration and motivator to the children and adults across the nation to learn about exercise and better eating habits. The award ceremonies will be held on January 15th & 16th, 2011 at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center with an estimated attendance of more than 80,000. In addition, this event will also honor top fitness celebrities for the impact they have made to the health and well-being of our nation.
The Shape Up America Campaign Health & Fitness Expos will be held in conjunction with NBC's Health & Wellness Expos, recognized as the premier wellness events in the country, attracting thousands of health-minded consumers each year. There will be a Shape Up America Campaign Pavilion at every venue, offering something for every member of the family including free health screenings, fitness demonstrations for children and adults, nutrition lectures, healthy cooking demonstrations/healthy shopping tips, athletic competitions, martial arts classes, boxing instruction, MMA fight demos, Sumo wrestling, a fitness model search and free product giveaways. Obstacle course challenges and face painting will be available for the kids, as well a variety of information and products for pet owners and lovers alike.
This event will also premiere the Washington, D.C. Miss Fitness Pageant. Several celebrities have been scheduled to join this event including Michael Torchia, celebrity trainer, Bill Germanakos, the season four winner of the "The Biggest Loser,” actor/athlete Sebastian Siegel and surprise appearances by celebrities from the entertainment and sports industries.
Health organizations joining forces for the Shape Up America 30-City Tour include: The After-School All-Stars, Boys and Girls Club of America, American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer's Association, National Fibromyalgia Association, Liver Foundation, American Red Cross, National MS Society, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Generation Rescue, Boys and Girls Club of America, P.S. I Love You Foundation, Children’s Fitness Foundation and The Children’s Fitness Academy.
The Shape Up America Campaign has already brought the message of family health and fitness to Los Angeles in March, and also to Central Park in New York City last June, where Shape Up America teamed with the Adventures NYC event that attracted more than 30,000 health and sports enthusiasts. The campaign is designed to promote better physical fitness among America's children and dent the current epidemic of childhood obesity in the U.S. Previously, New York Senator Charles Schumer and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa have both submitted resolutions recognizing The Shape Up America Campaign founder Michael Torchia for his advocacy of health and fitness issues for families and obese kids.
The Shape Up America Campaign was created to help adults, children and even pets get healthy for their own benefit and for the lasting benefits that will strengthen the entire nation for generations to come. The campaign targets all segments of our communities, including schools, city government, civic organizations, community groups, businesses, and other people who live, work and play in America. The goal is to show people how they can create fun, simple ways of working out, along with participating in stimulating activities at home, at the office, in a park or even in the wilderness.
