Latest Update From DPRP Steps In Jayapura
Latest Update From DPRP Steps In Jayapura:
Info received via SMS from sources at Protest camp:
At 6pm, Fully armed Indonesian police moved in after deadline for rally to disperse has passed. Situation escated to a tense stand off, then protest leaders sought negotiations with Police. Meeting was held for several hours, with following result:
"We have just received permission from the police chief that we could sleep tonight until tomorrow afternoon. God bless all my friends enjoy there."
Currently, over 20,000 people will be staying at the protest site overnight, but it is unknown at this stage whether they will disperse tomorrow.
However, information recieved and confirmed by multiple sources in Papua and also in Indonesia; have said that a high level delegation from the DPRD National Assembly in Jakarta is chartering two aircraft to fly to West Papua for negotiations with the Papuan people, DPRP, MRP, and Konsensus. THis is a significant victory that West Papuans are upbeat about. Please stay alert for further developments
Whilst this development makes it unlikely that police or militarywill use force between now andtomorrow afternoon, the situation is still highly dynamic, tense, and previous behaviour by security forces indicate that is going to be a long few nights.
There is still no word on what the militias that were mobilised earlier today are doing, or if they have been stood down, or otherwise.
Please stay tuned for further developments... and media, please refer to the contact list I sent you previously
Currently, all phones are on air again.
