Religious People Express Most Concern Over Facebook Privacy Control Changes

-- Majority of Facebook users say changes to privacy controls will not affect usage --

Flemington, NJ, June 4, 2010 – Results of a new national media study among 306 Facebook users revealed that religious people expressed the most concern regarding the recent Facebook privacy control changes, after viewing a video that highlighted the changes.

The study was conducted during June 2-4 by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website, to obtain Americans’ perceptions of a video highlighting the recent privacy control changes to Facebook users’ accounts. To view detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.

Respondents who reported being extremely religious or religious expressed the highest mean levels of concern over other users having access to their Facebook information. Based on a scale of 1-7, extremely religious and religious people rated a mean score of 5.6 for concern, compared to somewhat religious people who rated a mean score of 5.1 and non-religious people who rated a mean score of 4.9 after viewing a video on changes to Facebook privacy settings.

In addition, the majority of respondents (79%) indicated that the recent changes to Facebook’s privacy settings will not affect their Facebook usage.

Among the findings:

Please rate on a scale of 1-7 how concerned you are that the information you share on Facebook can be seen by people who you do not intend on sharing it with, where 1 represents “Not at all concerned” and 7 represents “Extremely concerned.”
