Israeli Army Arrests Five During Night Raid

Israeli Army Arrests Five During Nabi Saleh Night Raid

In an expansion of its campaign of repression against the Palestinian popular struggle, the Israeli Army raided the village of Nabi Saleh tonight and arrested five youths from their beds.

At around 2AM tonight a large contingent of Israeli military jeeps invaded the small hilltop community of Nabi Saleh Northwest of Ramallah. The soldiers raided six houses and arrested five young men who regularly participate in the weekly demonstrations held in the village.

The residents of Nabi Saleh have been holding regular demonstrations against the creeping confiscation of their lands by the adjacent Jewish-only settlement of Halamish. Protest was sparked after settlers, under abated by the Army, forcefully took over a natural spring belonging to the village.

Nabi Saleh is home to some 500 people. Since demonstrations in the village began, nine residents of the village, roughly two percent of the village's population, have been arrested protest-related suspicions. Dozens others suffered injuries caused by rubber-coated bullets.

In recent months Israel is waging a politically motivated campaign of repression against the Palestinian popular struggle that includes a policy of negligent use of arms, cover up of criminal misconduct and legal persecution.
