Aid Is Getting Through To Desperate Haitians

Aid Is Getting Through To Desperate Haitians

Despite the news that much-needed aid isn’t getting through, TEAR Fund’s partners are well underway with their distribution of food, water, and medical aid.

TEAR Fund NZ chief operations officer, Jon Horne said, “TEAR Fund can assure our supporters that aid is being delivered to ease the suffering of this ravaged nation.”

Medical teams were treating patients at Kings’ Hospital and at field hospitals and a big shipment of medical supplies had been distributed, much to the relief of medical facilities who had virtually run out of vital supplies, he said.

Three operating theatres are almost ready to go at full capacity and surgeons and nurses are attending to injuries. However, Stephan Bauman of one of TEAR Fund’s partner Integral Alliance partners said orthopaedic surgeons were in short supply.

Mr Horne said feeding stations had been set up in several locations in Haiti through a well-established network of churches in the country where TEAR Fund’s partners have had a long history of helping the needy.

“They are providing food and water to more than 1300 people and this will expand to meet the need and more supplies arrive.”
