Spanish and Argentinian Courts Indict Top Chinese Communist Party Officials for Torture, Genocide of Falun Gong

Recently, the Spanish National Court indicted five senior Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Officials on the grounds that these officials have allegedly committed Crimes against Humanity, specifically Genocide and Torture, inflicted upon Falun Gong practitioners in China. The five senior Chinese Communist Party Officials are: (1) former CCP leader Jiang Zemin, (2) Luo Gan, who oversaw the 610 Office, a nationwide secret police taskforce that has led the violent campaign of persecution against Falun Gong, (3) Bo Xilai, former Minister of Commerce, (4) Jia Qinglin, the fourth-highest member of the CCP hierarchy, and (5) Wu Guanzheng, head of an internal Party disciplinary committee.

The Spanish National Court has issued interrogatories which the five senior Chinese Communist Party Officials are required to respond to within 4-6 weeks of the date of issue. Should they fail to respond then the Spanish National Court will issue an international arrest warrant, and should any of these officials travel to a country with which Spain has an extradition treaty, then Spain can request the country to extradite that official to Spain where they will then be tried.
The Spanish National Court has taken a huge step forward by sending a clear message to those who perpetrate gross human rights abuses that they will be brought to justice no matter how high their position or how much power may lie at their disposal. Indeed, there is further encouraging news in this regard as an Argentinian Court has issued an international arrest warrant for Jiang Zemin and Luo Gan for allegedly committing Genocide and Torture against Falun Gong practitioners in China. The Argentinian Court, like the Spanish National Court, has relied upon the principle of universal jurisdiction. Please see a further article attached.

The tide is now turning against the Chinese Communist Party's brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. New Zealand, as a country which claims to take human rights seriously, should have no difficulty whatsoever in supporting the principled, just, and moral position taken by the Spanish National Court and the Argentine Court. We look forward to the day when a New Zealand Court follows the noble example set by its Spanish and Argentinian counterparts.
