Migiro Bound For Lebanon And Ethiopia To Help Improve Coordination Of UN System

Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro travels to Lebanon and Ethiopia next week to spearhead meetings designed at ensuring that the various United Nations departments, agencies and other components work more effectively together in the Middle East and Africa.

Ms. Migiro heads first to Beirut to chair a regional coordination mechanism meeting of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), which is headquartered in the Lebanese capital.

The Deputy Secretary-General is also expected to meet with national and regional leaders while in Beirut, UN spokesperson Michele Montas told reporters today.

Then Ms. Migiro travels to Addis Ababa for a regional coordination mechanism meeting convened by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and for meetings with representatives of the African Union (AU), the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and national and regional authorities.

Discussions at the regional coordination mechanism meetings will focus on enhancing collaboration among UN system organizations so that they can be more effective and efficient in delivering results for UN Member States.
