Nurturing Relationships Between Defence & Industry

Nurturing Relationships Between Defence And Industry

Deputy Secretary for Defence Support, Mr Martin Bowles, today opened the inaugural Defence Support Conference 2009.

“The Defence Support Conference aims to bring Defence and industry together to share priorities, principles, best practices, and emerging issues and challenges in procurement around Defence’s estate, non-equipment procurement and shared support services,” Mr Bowles said.

“It is a valuable opportunity for Defence and industry to forge mutually beneficial partnerships, and drive value and innovation in service delivery in support of members of the Australian Defence Force and other Defence personnel.”

Representatives from several overseas, national, regional and local suppliers attended the conference to gain an understanding of Commonwealth and Defence procurement policies, priorities and strategies.

“As stated in Defence White Paper 2009, the cornerstone of improvement to Defence support services will involve maximising the delivery of services and the development of better buying and contracting practices to ensure a more efficient service to the organisation,” Mr Bowles said.

The conference provided an opportunity for Defence to engage with a diverse mix of existing and potential suppliers, regardless of ownership, location or size.

This is an important step forward as Defence and industry work together to support and maintain a sustainable, high performance Defence organisation.
