Hmong refugees fear forced deportation attempt

Hmong refugees fear forced deportation attempt

Hmong refugees held at Nong Khai jail, Thailand fear they may be secretly deported to Laos this coming July 4th weekend when the diplomatic community is off on holiday. The fear comes from recent unexplained and suspicious visits to the facility by high-level officials over the past week.

These 158 Hmong refugees, mainly women and children, have been held hostage under torturous living conditions for almost 3 years now due to an extreme amount of pressure from the Lao government who is adamant in defying international refugee law and not allowing the Thai government to resettle them in third countries.

Many of these refugees plan on taking their own lives rather than being forced back to the country where they fled persecution from.
