Ban Ki-Moon Wary Of Burmese Generals

The United Nations' Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon will travel to Burma on Friday to press the ruling junta on democratic reforms.
Ban Ki- Moon will arrive in Burma on the day the trial of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi is set to resume. Suu Kyi faces up to five years in jail if convicted of charges of breaching her house arrest, stemming from an incident during May in which an American man, John Yettaw, swam to her lakeside house.
It is believed the UN chief will urge Burma's generals to free political prisoners, including opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. However the junta seems determined to detain Aung San Suu Kyi to prevent her participation in the planned 2010 elections. Ban Ki-Moon is said to be wary of his trip being used by the generals to endorse their treatment of Ms Suu Kyi.
