Burma's opposition party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), has expressed grave concerns about the health of its detained leader. Aung San Suu Kyi has been on an intravenous drip since Friday suffering from dehydration and low blood pressure.
According to the NLD her physician has been arrested and the military authorities have not permitted outside doctors to treat her. Her party is demanding that the military junta allow her to receive the urgent medical treatment she requires.
The Nobel Laureate has been under house arrest for 13 of the last 19 years, since her party won the elections in 1990 and Burma's hard-line generals refused to hand over power.
