ADF Response To Explosion On Foreign Vessel

ADF Response To Explosion On Foreign Vessel

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is providing aircraft and personnel operated by the Royal Australian Air Force, and patrol boats operated by the Royal Australian Navy, to evacuate injured survivors of the incident involving an explosion aboard a vessel in the vicinity of Ashmore Reef.

The Air Force is providing two C-130 Hercules and two C-17A Globemaster III aircraft, along with aero-medical evacuation health professionals, to support the ADF response to the incident.

These aircraft commenced evacuating the injured people to major health facilities in Perth and Darwin overnight and will continue through today.

The ADF also provided medical staff to the initial emergency response team that was despatched to meet the injured people at Truscott air field. Medical supplies were delivered to the ships by RAAF air craft and HMAS Glenelg delivered medical staff and supplies to HMAS Albany overnight.

Due to the remote location and limited facilities at Truscott Airfield, a Temporary Restricted Area has been established around the airfield to ensure air operations in support of the evacuation of injured personal is guaranteed the highest priority.
