Israeli Grapefruit 'Mislabelled' In Ruse

Israeli Grapefruit 'Mislabelled' In Ruse

Claims have been made that a leading European supermarket chain has been palming off Israeli grapefruit to customers as "Produce of Cyprus".

The reason for the alleged ruse is that consumers across Europe have been boycotting Israeli goods since the incursion into Gaza at the start of the year, which left more than 1000 people dead.

Investigations into the claims are being conducted by environmental health officers.

Meanwhile, Indymedia reports that the Cypriot ambassador to Ireland, Sotos Liassides, has asked the supermarket chain to remove all reference to Cyprus on the grapefruit labels. He said the supermarket are "trying desperately to get rid of their Israeli grapefruit stock by presenting it as Cypriot."
