Jrc, Militant Group Condemns Bomadi Attack

THE Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC), an insurgent network comprising the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), the Reformed Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force and the Martyrs Brigade, have dissociated themselves from the recent engagement in the Bomadi area of Delta State that resulted in the death of some soldiers.

Spokesperson of the group, Cynthia Whyte, in an on-line statement yesterday said, ''we are reliably informed that the death of the soldiers and injury to some others was a direct result of a misunderstanding that ensued during the sharing of ill-gotten largesse obtained from their involvement in crude oil bunkering and sales''.

According to the insurgent network, ''it is imperative to note that there is a calculated attempt by certain near illiterate elements within the media team of the Joint Task Force (JTF) to undermine the legacy of our declared ceasefire and question the integrity of some key leading elements within the struggle for the liberation and emancipation of the Ijaw and Niger Delta territory. They will fail''.

Adding, they said, ''we condemn these people and demand that they be held responsible for misleading the public on the events that resulted in the death and injury of their colleague soldiers''.

Continuing, the JRC said, ''we wish to inform all people of the Nigerian state of an attempt to directly impugn the integrity of the heroic combatants of the Nigerian Delta struggle who for so long now, have continued on a path of honesty, legitimacy and integrity. We will not allow them''.

While claiming that tough times call for tough decisions, they pointed out that they were working towards driving the peace in the Niger Delta by any means possible,

''We call on all people to reject the dubious antics of a losing and largely northern JTF cabal whose strategic interest is to parasitically hang on to the huge security votes of the dumb governors of the Niger Delta region especially Rotimi Amaechi (the most unelected governor of the Niger Delta). God will redeem them'', they said.

However, the militant group has strongly commended the Governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomole for what they described as ''his commitment to driving the peace process and stimulating development in the Niger Delta especially in Edo State''.

Such quality of leadership, they went on, ''is long overdue in the Niger Delta. We also commend the foresight of our leader Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari in making this possible. We are not unaware of the devises of the enemy even as we remain faithful to our calling''.
