Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Mark T. Kimmitt, Assistant Secretary of Defense Mary Beth Long, and Bahraini Minister of State for Defense Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa co-chaired the fourth round of the U.S.-Bahrain Gulf Security Dialogue (GSD) on November 15, 2008. The fourth round of talks reflected the mutual U.S.-Bahrain support for regional security and cooperation affecting the Gulf region. Both delegations expressed appreciation for their in-depth discussion of terrorism, weapons proliferation, and enhanced maritime security and defense cooperation.

The United States and Bahrain continue their robust cooperation on counterproliferation and counterterrorism issues. The United States welcomed Bahrain’s progressive movement on these and other issues, highlighting especially its commitment to leading a maritime counterterrorism task force.

Both delegations expressed their deep satisfaction with this fourth round of their GSD, and they look forward to continuing this important dialogue between the two countries.
