Information sharing crucial for national development
6 August 2008 - Information sharing amongst labour and employment stakeholders is crucial in planning national and development policies for the nation.
Permanent Secretary for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Taito Waqa said that good and sound labour practices allow for the design of national human resource development policies and initiatives.
"Information on labour needs can help policy makers to better align resources to tailor the needs of the sectors both private and public to create training and educational programmes in the curriculum to suit the demands and skills for the particular area of need," he said.
"It allows our Education system to tailor educational and training curriculum's to suit and be responsive to our national human resources needs.
Mr Waqa said the concern for policy makers given the increases in school dropouts and skilled labour migration and the instability of the economy, is really to replenish the void left behind and thus a 'labour market information system' is needed to keep up to date on the movement and fluctuations of the labour force.
