Pakistan Expresses Concern Over Repeated Cross Border Missile Attacks
Rawalpindi, July 28 - Lieutenant General Martin E Dempsey, acting Commander US CENTCOM, called on Chairman Joint Chiefs Of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Tariq Majid at Joint Staff Headquarters, Chaklala today.
General Dempsey held a wide ranging discussion with CJCSC, General Tariq Majid on matters of mutual interest between the two countries and other avenues of military cooperation. They also exchanged views on current security environment of the region with a focus on situation in Frontier Regions, Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
While referring to the rhetoric by Afghan Political Leadership, Chairman JCSC said that baseless allegations against Pakistan could affect mutual trust and would definitely influence our efforts in war against terror. He emphasised the need to have a collaborative approach between the Coalition Forces.
General Tariq Majid also highlighted that we have to give a chance to the political process over the kinetic approach followed and develop a broad based consensus on the strategy worked out by Pakistan to deal with terrorism for a real solution to the problem rather than indulging in blame game. There is a dire need to break the nexus of drug trafficking in Afghanistan which is the life line of terror outfits, he added.
Expressing concern over repeated cross border missile attacks / firing by Coalition and Afghan Forces, General Tariq said that our sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected, any violation in this regard could be detrimental to bilateral relations. He also reemphasised that Pakistan Armed Forces are capable of handling any challenges to our security.
