Fiji Artists Encouraged To Maintain High Standards

Fijian Artists Encouraged To Maintain High Standards

The Deputy Secretary for Education, Mr Filipe Jitoko says government is willing to provide financial support for Fiji's participation in cultural events such as the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts.

However the onus is on performers and artists to keep up the high standards.

"This is the first time for me to attend an arts festival and I am amazed with what I saw this evening and am very proud of your performance during the ceremony," Mr Jitoko said.

Mr Jitoko made the comments whilst speaking to the delegation after the opening ceremony of the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts at Pagopago's Veterans Stadium in Amerika Samoa on Monday night.

Mr Jitoko expressed his Ministry's intentions to encourage more of Fiji's participation in cultural events. He said Fiji has to start preparing for the next festival sooner than later.

Mr Jitoko reminded delegates and officials of His Excellency the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo's advise before the group departed Fiji, that they carried with them Fiji's reputation.

"Whatever you do you must always have in the back of your mind that you are representatives of Fiji and they will always be consequences to your actions."

Fiji is represented by 101 delegates and is performing in eight of the 13 categories.

The programme proper starts Tuesday (Wednesday Fiji time).
