IDF Arrests Father Of Gilf Who Filmed Atrocity

Father of the girl who filmed Palestinian detainee shot by Israeli army along with Canadian citizen arrested at demonstration in Ni'lin

The Israeli army have arrested the father of the girl who filmed an atrocity in July.

On July 7th, a 14 year old videoed a detained Palestinian being shot while the man was handcuffed and blindfolded. Now her father Jamal Hussein Amirra has been arrested, along with Victor MacDiarmid, a Canadian citizen.

The arrests occurred today near the Palestinian village of Ni'lin in the occupied West Bank, where villagers are peacefully protesting against the construction of Israel's 'apartheid wall.' The path of the wall annexes agricultural land close to the village. MacDiarmid and Amirra were observing a non-violent women's demonstration against the wall.

When the Israeli Army attacked the unarmed women, both men attempted to intervene. Amirra joined the demonstration, while MacDiarmid took photographs. The two were arrested within minutes.

Interviewed on Palestinian TV this morning, the 14 year old girl expressed concern that her family would be targeted by the Israeli army due her film being publicised. Her footage was broadcast throughout the world and has caused shock waves in Israel, where a soldier has been arrested and an official investigation launched.

Victor MacDiarmid is from Kingston, Ontario, and has twice been shot by rubber-coated steel bullets while attempting to take in supplies to Ni'lin during a recent a four-day Israeli army blockade of the village.

Ni'lin will lose approximately 2500 donums of land when the construction of the apartheid wall is finished. From having over 57 000 donums in 1948, the village has seen its land decrease to 33 000 donums in 1967 to about 10 000 donums at the present time. The villagers fear that this annexation will be the final blow to the village's economy.
