Fiji's PM Bainimarama Meets Dubai Ports World
PM meets Dubai Ports World
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama this morning (22/5) met with Dubai Ports World, a world-renowned marine terminal operator.
DP World is one of the largest marine terminal operators in the world with 43 terminals and 13 new developments across 28 countries.
Commodore Bainimarama was honoured to have met with Dubai Ports World, which has a dedicated, experienced and professional team of more than 30,000 that serves customers in some of the most dynamic economies in the world.
"It's really to do with some business meetings I had with DP World during my trip to Dubai for the World Tourism Summit. I am pleased that DP World has followed up that meeting to Fiji which they had promised."
"One of the things DP World aims to do is to enhance customers' supply chain efficiency by providing quality services to effectively manage container, bulk and other terminal cargo. It also provides logistics and infrastructure development services where its experience adds significant value for customers.
Commodore Bainimarama said it was a really good opportunity to further explore good business ground, as DP World was keen to make investment in the Pacific region.
"It's very strategic for us because Fiji being the Hub of the Pacific tag and to be able to partner with a company like DP World would be exciting for the future developments," he said.
"Therefore we hope to make some good ground and have something substantive that we hope to further develop our ports here.
DP World was represented by Senior Vice President DP World Jack B Williams, National Manager Strategy and Development Jason Varsamidis and Aeroport International De Djibouti Director General Leivin Philippe.
The meeting with the PM was followed by a Cabinet briefing with relevant government ministers and the Fiji Island Trade Investment Bureau.
DP World officials will also tour ports and terminals around the country.
