Solomon Islands Government, RAMSI And The Forum To Discuss RAMSI
The Solomon Islands Government, the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) and the Pacific Islands Forum will convene the Enhanced Consultative Mechanism (ECM) and Forum Ministerial Standing Committee (FMSC) Meetings in Honiara from 20 – 22 February 2008 to discuss issues pertaining to the operations of the Mission.
This is the first meeting between the three partners to the Mission since Pacific Islands Forum Leaders endorsed the recommendations of the RAMSI Review Forum Taskforce Report during the Leaders’ meeting in Tonga last October.
Senior Officials representing the Solomon Islands Government, RAMSI and four other Forum members will attend the Enhanced Consultative Mechanism Meeting in Honiara on 20th February to be followed by a meeting of the Forum Ministerial Standing Committee on 22nd February.
The Forum members include Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Niue and Australia.
It is expected that the meetings will discuss among other issues the RAMSI Review Forum Taskforce Report, the operation of the new governance structure as recommended in the Report and to consider ways in which RAMSI can support the CNURA Government in implementing its Policies and Priorities.
In particular the meetings will look at liaison and briefing mechanisms between RAMSI and the Solomon Islands Cabinet and the role of the triumvirate in the system.
The triumvirate as recommended by the Report consists of the Solomon Islands Special Envoy to RAMSI, the RAMSI Special Coordinator and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Representative in Solomon Islands.
