Sir James Leads Chinese Delegation To Fiji

Fiji's Ambassador to China, Sir James Ah Koy will lead a group of Chinese entrepreneurs for a 10-day visit to Fiji commencing next week (20/2/08)

The delegation will pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and relevant Cabinet Ministers.

They will meet business stakeholders and relevant key industries like Fiji Island Trade Investment Bureau (FTIB), Native Lands Trust Board (NLTB), Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) and Housing Authority (HA).

It's a first for Sir James in his capacity as Ambassador to China to bring such a team.

And more significantly that it's also another opportunity to further strengthen the Fiji-China friendship and relationship and to realize the enormous benefits derived through this association.

Fiji has enjoyed over 30 years of established diplomatic ties with China and frequent contacts like this, at various levels brings together a greater level of understanding, trust and cooperation between the two countries.

The Interim Government's newly established Fiji/China Business Council is one of the new initiatives that's promised to further build on the trade and economic ties between Fiji and China.

The Chinese delegation will focus on Ethanol and Low Cost Housing projects. They will also explore opportunities for investment in other areas such as agriculture, manufacturing and tourism.

The Fiji-China link has evolved from trade and investment to education and training, where a significant number of Fiji locals have had the opportunity to study in China over the years.
